Numb vs. Alive

Numb vs Alive

-Kristen Oliver

I know what it’s like to feel numb.

I know what it’s like to feel careless.

I know what it’s like to feel unmotivated.

But I also know what it’s like to feel alive.

I know what it’s like to feel joy.

I know what it’s like to feel peace that passes all understanding.

I know what it’s like on antidepressants.

I know what it’s like to be off antidepressants.

And I know this doesn’t make me any less of a person.

I know what it’s like to make the choice everyday

to move forward.

Regardless of how I feel.

I know what it’s like to cry for “no reason.”

I have fomo.

But I’m done with the comparison game.

I’m done with my way.

I surrender to His way.

I’m done trying to lose weight and follow all the diet trends.

I’m ready to choose me every day no matter how it looks.

I’m not in control of your perceptions.

I’m not in control of how your body acts.

I’m only in control of me.

I know what it’s like to feel numb.

I know what it’s like to feel alive.

I wrote this poem last July, during a time of feeling very thankful for the season of life I was in, but also coming out of a truly difficult spiritual and physical season. I hesitate to post things that truly tell some of the deep thoughts and struggles of my life. However, I also find it very therapeutic and I want others to know when you struggle silently you are not alone.

Please let me know how I can be praying for you.

In Him,

Kristen Oliver
